Bologna City Walking Tour
At the end of the conference programme on Saturday afternoon, participants are invited to join a guided walking tour of the historic centre of Bologna, one of Italy’s best-preserved medieval cities.
This cultural visit will offer an opportunity to discover the city’s main landmarks, historic squares and vibrant streets while learning about Bologna’s long academic tradition and architectural heritage.
Tour Highlights
The guided tour (approximately 2-3 hours) will include visits to some of the most iconic places in the historic centre:
- Piazza Maggiore and its historic palaces
- The Neptune Fountain
- Basilica of San Petronio
- Archiginnasio of Bologna (explanation from the internal courtyard)
- The historic market district of the Quadrilatero
- Santo Stefano Complex
- The iconic Two Towers of Bologna (external view)
Practical Information
Participation in the city tour is included in both the conference and accompanying person registration fees.

Ravenna Guided Tour
Participants of the conference are invited to join a full-day guided excursion to Ravenna, one of Italy’s most remarkable historic cities and a UNESCO World Heritage destination located about one hour from Bologna.
Ravenna is internationally renowned for its extraordinary Byzantine mosaics and its early Christian monuments, many of which are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The tour will offer participants the opportunity to discover the city’s artistic heritage through a guided visit to several of its most famous monuments.
Tour Programme
The full-day itinerary includes visits to five UNESCO-listed monuments and other significant sites in the historic centre.
Morning visits
- Neonian Baptistery
- Archiepiscopal Chapel and the Archiepiscopal Museum
- Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo
Afternoon visits
- Basilica of San Vitale
- Basilica of San Francesco
- Mausoleum of Galla Placidia
The itinerary also includes a walk through the Dante Area, where Dante Alighieri spent the final years of his life and where his tomb is located.
Practical Information
Participation fee: €60 per person (VAT included)
The fee includes:
- Round-trip coach transportation from Bologna to Ravenna
- Professional guided tour
- Entrance tickets to the monuments included in the itinerary
- Headsets (audio system) for the guided visit
Lunch is not included in the participation fee. Participants will have free time for lunch in the historic centre of Ravenna, where a variety of restaurants, cafés and local trattorias are available.
How to Participate
Participation in the tour is optional and places are limited.
Participants can select the Ravenna guided tour during the conference registration process.
